Kiln

Kiln is a form and material research in which Nandi Enthoven dives deep into the world of glass and ceramics. These two materials fascinate her because of their colors, deformability and unpredictability. Nandi feels the materials contain something powerful because of the molecular transformation that only takes place with the use of high temperatures, such as firing in a kiln.

'Clay is soft and malleable, I can shape it with my bare hands. I think glass is indomitable, risky, strict and stubborn, but magical. Would this couple fit together?'

The oven will try to fuse these two materials together, but because the expansion rate of the materials differs, the experiments could easily crack.
After each firing, Nandi studies the results and applies the new knowledge and ideas to the next firing. In addition to the choice of temperature of the oven, and many other elements, the shape of the object is also of importance. Nandi used a pottery wheel to make the ceramic samples and in this process she plays with form, color and variations.
